On this tour experience, we will navigate through hidden alleys, transformed industrial spaces, renowned “green” initiatives, alternative galleries, and urban innovations in Berlin.
You’ll get an understanding of the thriving counter-culture movements that emerged after the fall of the Berlin Wall and why so many people, from expats to film makers, musicians, startup companies, misfits, and the free spirited decided to call this place their forever home.
Visit creative living spaces, self sustainability projects, and multicultural communities living side by side in “mostly” harmony, but sometimes not.
We will talk about the housing projects, communal living apartments, squats and wagon communities that appeared after the fall of the wall.
You will discover some of the most iconic, beautiful, and edgy street art, mural art, and graffiti pieces, way off the typical tourist path. Learn about the famous artists and the social / political messages behind this language of the street.

We take a look at the long and storied music scene in Berlin from Punk, Hip hop, Jazz, Heavy Metal and of course Electronic music. You will learn about the original gramophone parties in the 20’s & 30’s held as a rebellion against National socialism and compulsory youth groups. Hidden jazz, blues and swing dance events forbidden at the time. The underground fetish clubs, burlesque scenes with their roots in the 1920’s till present.
This tour will stop and take in a few of the vibrant and interesting local and multicultural neighbourhoods or “Kiez” as we call them where you can try some the local food and drink if your group desires. The nightlife and afterdark culture of this city is famous worldwide and I will give you some local tips, share some personal stories and let you immerse yourself in the Berlin lifestyle.
This tour has been offered for over 18 years and while the routes may have slightly varied, the art may have been added to or changed. The spirit of this Alternative tour concept remains. We can ́t wait to show you the beating heart of Alternative Berlin.
Street Art tour Berlin
Street art & graffiti are everywhere in Berlin. Artists from around the world visit Berlin to paint both legal and illegal murals, small pieces, and commissioned work.
There are also the sweet-spots in the city that attract specific artists to visit, to paint, and also to admire the work of their peers. Some of which is off-the-radar of the casual observers, tourist groups, and city-bloggers.
On this exciting tour, we will criss cross the city and take you from the former east to the west of Berlin through abandoned industrial yards to backstreets, quiet courtyards, walls, and some famous work as your guide (an active member of the scene) dazzles you with insider knowledge and tales from the streets.
You´ll learn the meanings behind the art, the political messages, the techniques, the rules, the culture, the crews, the humor, the history of the scenes, their impact on society, and the backgrounds and motivations of the local and international artists that keep this world famous scene alive, active, and part of Berlin´s modern folklore.
